Six design stories offer a diverse look at design tracing the history and processes of contemporary design. The show includes furniture, product, fashion, transport and architecture alongside a selection of prototypes, models and specially commissioned films.
The Design Museum has received a donation of over 400 fashion items by one of the museum’s trustees, Jill Ritblat. The collection – which is the museum’s first ever fashion acquisition – features pieces by Chanel, Givenchy and Vivienne Westwood.
The exhibition will be on permanent display until 2015, with some elements being changed every year. You can preview selected objects in the collection by downloading the Design Museum Collection App for iPad, free from iTunes.
The Design Museum has the UK’s only collection devoted exclusively to modern and contemporary design and architecture.
Financial Times – “They may sometimes look like each other, but design is not art and art is not design. In the context of a museum, art is best left to speak for itself.”
